Need Gum Gone? Chewing gum removal can be a sticky business, whether it’s stuck on your concrete, parking lot or the side of a building, gum eventually changes into a dark smudge on concrete. But before that point, pedestrians and customers coming into a store or office will step on the chewing gum and get it in all over the carpets and mats. Then it’s forced deep into the carpet fibers and into the porous surface of concrete or asphalt, just waiting for someone to step in it again, to track it somewhere else.
We are proud to provide gum removal as one of our commercial pressure washing services in Newton MA. Find more information about our process below:
The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.
The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Next we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off the concrete.
The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.
When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that could harm the surface of the concrete!
Our team never uses any more pressure than needed to clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal service.
To completely remove chewing gum from parking lots and other commercial surfaces we use custom designed hot water pressure washing tools and powerful soaps that enable us to effectively clean the concrete without causing any damages.
Using special 200 degree hot water power washers and low pressure, we can safely remove gum and surface dirt while protecting the surface. Our process will also eliminate bacteria and viruses that are found in gum on concrete.
