10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t fun for most of us. But it should be done. As the holidays and winter near an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a home?
The exterior of your home could use a little tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Newton, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the optimal time to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, pests and critters are searching for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows can be tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem strange since you’ll just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it is easy to forget about it in the winter when you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad condition the first time you step onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you may need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical home roof issues in Newton. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll need to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This will eliminate any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is probably what most people see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even inspire you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You’ll be spending much more time outside, so spring is a great chance to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home so much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a big impact on the overall look of your home.
Eliminate weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Newton Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
